Student Travel Grants
The Center for Educational Data Science and Innovation (EDSI) is committed to supporting UMD graduate students in advancing their research and training. For the 2025-26 academic year, EDSI is offering ten $1,000 travel grants to help cover the costs of presenting at a research conference.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be a current UMD graduate student.
- Student is an active participant in the EDSI community by attending center events and supporting initiatives (participation rate > 80%).
- Research must align with EDSI's mission of advancing educational data science.
- Funds must be used for presenting at an academic conference between now and August 2026.
Additional requirements
Grantees will be required to submit a short brief (2-3 pages) summarizing the outcomes or impact of their research after the conference. They will also be encouraged to present their research at EDSI events, such as the Co-Learning Seminar Series.
Application Instructions
Applications should be submitted as PDF that includes the following information:
- Applicant name, UID, department, and advisor
- Research justification: a 1-page brief description of how this research contributes to the field and how it aligns with your overall research agenda.
- The name, dates, and location of the conference you wish to present at.
- A confirmation email of conference acceptance.
- Other funding sources that you have secured or are applying for.
- The paper that is accepted for presentation. If the paper is not ready, the proposal submitted to a conference is acceptable.
Timeline
Submission is on a rolling basis. A committee will review the applications. Decisions will be made by the last day of a given month for all submissions two weeks before that date. For example, if a student applies on or before October 15, they will learn about the decision before October 30. Grants will be transferred within two months after the decision.
