Thanks for your interest in M-Powering Teachers!

We are currently recruiting district partners for the study “Improving Teachers’ Equitable Mathematics Instruction Through Automated Feedback and Coaching." Contact Hannah Rosenstein at hrosenst@umd.edu

What Do Districts and Teachers Get?

  • Districts will receive aggregated, de-identified, diagnostic information about mathematics instruction in participating schools.
  • Districts will receive open-source tools that can be used to assess how mathematics improvement initiatives affect classroom mathematics instruction.
  • Teachers will receive diagnostic information and improvement tips about their recorded lessons. This information will be delivered privately via an automated email or via a web app.
  • Teachers will receive coaching from Harvard-trained instructional coaches focused on their automated feedback. The research team can also train district coaches to provide ongoing support with automated feedback.
  • Support staff such as special educators and classroom aides working in participating teachers’ classrooms will also be invited to participate in the study.
  • Mathematics teachers and support staff will be compensated for participating in the study.

What Do We Need?

We ask district partners to:

  • Allow video and audio recordings of mathematics instruction and short teacher and student surveys about that instruction.
  • Share administrative data the district collects (e.g., student demographics and test data). Data will be de-identified and stored in a secure, encrypted environment following FERPA protections and will eventually be completely de-identified for public use.
  • Enable researchers to link students' classroom contributions to administrative data for better measures of equitable instruction.
  • Facilitate recruitment of grades 4-8 mathematics teachers and support staff within the district.

Eligible Districts:

  • are midsize or large population
  • hae a racially and/or socioeconomically diverse student population
  • use high-quality instructional materials

If your district does not meet the eligibility requirements for this study, you can still sign up to use the M-Powering Teachers app for free.

If your district is interested in participating in this study, please contact Research Project Manager Hannah Rosenstein at hrosenst@umd.edu or Principal Investigator Jing Liu at jliu28@umd.edu and we can set up a time to share more information!
