Automatic Speech Recognition

Automated speech recognition (ASR) for children is a critical area of AI research because children's speech differs significantly from adult speech in terms of pitch, pronunciation, vocabulary, and fluency. These differences pose unique challenges for existing ASR systems, which are typically trained on adult data and often perform poorly when applied to younger users. Our work improves ASR for children to create inclusive, accessible technologies in education that are fundamental for many edtech applications.
